We start the day bright & early. Many of our afternoon tea items cannot be made until the morning of a wedding so our day usually starts at around 6am. A cup of our very own Yours Truly Tea gets us going for the big day ahead.
Sandwich making is in full force right now. We have our entire team filling, chopping & stacking hundreds of scrumptious finger sandwiches ready for today’s wedding.
Sausage Rolls are in the oven. Todays choice are pork & stuffing (my personal favourite)! These are cooled & kept in our cooler boxes ready to serve later.
Scones are being egg washed ready for the oven. We leave this job until last as we want our scones to be as fresh as possible.
There’s just time for another cup of Yours Truly tea & a staff briefing before we leave. Today’s wedding is at 12pm & the afternoon tea is due to be served at 1pm. We generally need around an hour & a half to set up & it’s an hour’s drive to the venue so off we go!
We’ve arrived! We are a bit early so we scope out the best place to unload the car & find the kitchen. We check that we have electric & access to drinking water.
The Bride & Groom are in the church saying their vows at this very moment. We are busy laying out our beautiful vintage crockery on the tables. We place a cup, saucer, side plate & napkin on each place setting. We add milk jugs and sugar bowls with a few teaspoons in to every table. In the kitchen, the urns are boiling, the scones are getting filled with strawberry conserve & clotted cream & the girls are getting the 3-tier cake stands ready for filling with delicious treats! The bride, groom & guests arrive at the venue. They look wonderful.
The kitchen is busy now. It’s all hands on deck as we get the cake stands filled. We leave this as late as possible as we want everything to be fresh when it arrives at the table. We take them to the tables at 12.50.
The wedding party is coming into the marquee to sit. Our favourite part of a wedding is seeing the guests coming into their afternoon tea, licking their lips & oooh-ing and ahhh-ing. The guests sit & the bride & groom are announced in. Everyone stands and applauds the beautiful bride & groom & once they are seated, everyone eats!
We bring steaming tea pots of yours Truly Tea to each table & ask any guests if they would like an alternative tea from our tea menu’s on the tables or if anyone would like coffee. We stand back now & let the guests enjoy themselves. We check if the tea needs refilling regularly & take out any extras we may have. Guests always eat the savouries first then slowly move onto the cakes. The atmosphere is relaxed & fun.
We let everyone eat until they can eat no more. The bride & groom do the speeches. After the speeches are over, we will start to clear the tables. Some guests pinch a last minute cake, some of the older guests wrap one up in a napkin for their supper tonight. Great idea!
Tables are cleared. We are filling the car & doing the last of the clean down in the kitchen. We say goodbye to the bride & groom & wish them all the happiness in the world. We have a long afternoon/evening ahead of us washing all of the crockery – nothing that another cup of yours Truly tea wouldn’t help with.
What a fantastic day!
